Hey! I’m Layla

I’m currently in my senior year of high school. I was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, where the vastness of the sea and the chaos of the city taught me to find calm in the middle of the worst storms.

I love coming up with things that make life a bit simpler, smarter, or just happier… whether it’s a home-built circuit, a painting, or a new way of seasoning my home-made bagels. I take pride in doing well in projects I take on, whether it is solving a problem, accurately shading the portrait of my cat, or extending my 930 day Spanish streak on Duolingo. I think I get my drive from the decade I spent competing as a gymnast, but I have now switched to varsity soccer (because it’s less lonely), weight lifting (because it keeps me strong) on the days I don’t have practice and surfing when the waves are big enough.

I’m very excited about College next year… where I hope to be able to combine my creativity with my interests in problem solving by studying mechanical engineering.
